Our Courses
Low Angle Rope Rescue Techniques
Our low angle program is designed with the novice to intermediate rope rescuer in mind, but provides an excellent review even for the seasoned rope practitioner. Starting with a review of knotcraft, anchors, and mechanical advantage systems, the course progresses to practical evolutions where rescuers will put into practice the techniques necessary for successful rescues in the low- and steep-angle environments. Particular focus is made on the concepts and components of efficient and effective rope rescue systems and their applications.
This course is based off the requisite knowledge and skills for the Awareness and Operations levels of rope rescue as defined in NFPA 1006 (2021). Techniques and applications in this course provide students with an excellent primer or review for a fully inclusive NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Operations-level course.
Students should have a working knowledge of ropes and knotcraft prior to participating in this program. Recommended training includes a NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Awareness- and Operations-level course.
High Angle Rope Rescue Techniques
This program will take your practice to the next level whether you’re new to the vertical realm or an experienced rescuer. Based on the NFPA 1006 (2021) Operations and Technician levels, the course begins with review of knotcraft, anchors, and mechanical advantage systems, and then moves quickly to the skills needed to function in the high-angle environment. Practical exercises include patient packaging, pick-offs, and edge transitions, as well as work with AHDs. Final scenarios will be comprised of work with high lines, offsets, and guiding lines.
Students should have a strong working knowledge of ropes and rigging prior to participating in this program. Recommended training includes NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Operations- and Technician-level courses.
Personal Rope Rescue Skills and Techniques
The personal skills program is both physically and mentally challenging. Designed for the experienced rescuer, this course focuses intensely on personal rope rescue skills such as ascending and descending fixed rope systems, rescuer-based pick-offs, and addressing failures in rope rescue systems. Students will gain knowledge and skill in rope access and rope rescue techniques that are invaluable in the rapidly advancing world of rope rescue. The ability to operate independently on rope cannot be understated, and our instructors are here to increase your individual ability and confidence on rope!
Students should have a strong working knowledge of ropes and rigging prior to participating in this program. Recommended training includes, but is not limited to, NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Operations- and Technician-level courses and rope access technician courses (SPRAT and IRATA).
Confined Space Rigging Workshop
Confined spaces can provide interesting and unique challenges when it comes to rigging rope rescue systems. This workshop is designed to review knotcraft, anchors, patient packaging, and artificial high directionals. Skill building focuses on learning high angle rigging techniques specific to the confined space environment. Students will then have the opportunity to apply those techniques and skills in scenarios.
Students should have a strong working knowledge of rigging and knotcraft prior to participating in this program. Recommended training includes NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Operations- and Technician-level courses as well as NFPA 1006 Confined Space Rescue Operations- and Technician-level courses.
Artificial High Directionals
The flagship program of High Stakes Rescue is the Artificial High Directionals course with specific focus on the Arizona Vortex. An industry standard, the Arizona Vortex is one of the greatest innovations in the rope rescue realm perhaps since rope itself. Starting with classroom work on the physics and math behind the device as well as the concepts of its successful incorporation into the rescue environment, this workshop-style course progresses to practical exercises where students can explore different frame configurations and test them in scenarios.
Students should be highly familiar with low- and high-angle rescue techniques prior to enrolling in this program. Rigging and knotcraft familiarity are a must. It is highly recommended that they have completed a rope rescue technician program in accordance with NFPA 1006 rope technician standard.
